My Evolution as a Horse Person

I am Wendee Walker of Napa, California, USA. I taught public school for 27 years. I had always wanted horses in my life so fulfilled that need by volunteering for therapeutic riding at Eq-ed in Santa Rosa, CA on weekends. I saw life in a different light after adopting a wild Mustang in 2003. I'll tell you more about that in future blog posts!

Becoming a guardian for and student of Mustang Yogi ever since has led me to question traditional horse training methods and to study various styles, finally developing “Brioso’s Way” positive reinforcement training. Brioso is a young horse I bought as a yearling. His quick mind and health challenges, inspired me to learn clicker training.

My deep connection with my horses, along with personal trauma in other areas of my life, drew me to complementary health offerings, including Reiki. Now, I practice and teach the Animal Reiki Source Let Animals Lead® method of animal Reiki. I believe in the reciprocal exchange of energy and teaching animal and human learners postures for confidence and mutual healing. For certain, the animals have shown me the way.

As of 2016 teaching public school is in my past. In 2018, Mustang Yogi and I together earned the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Bronze Medal. In 2019, we qualified for 3rd level musical freestyle, and earned the All-Breeds Award for American Mustang and Burro Association (AMBA). You will be able see us perform musical freetyles at rated shows and fun exhibitions starting in summer 2020. To relax, we will head out on the trail for camping with friends.

I share “Brioso’s Way” positive reinforcement foundation training, “Write with the Herd” workshops, and “Heal with Horses” in my pasture, arena and barn aisle on Mt. Veeder, in Napa County, CA USA.
